Equestrian Campground

With over 25 miles of scenic, well-maintained trails, horseback riding has long been a popular activity at Governor Dodge. Previously, the only option for horseback riders from outside the immediate area was to camp in a small temporary campground with little privacy and few amenities.

The new campground will increase use of the park’s horse trail system by adding additional sites that offer a much more inviting ambience for individuals, families and groups. As part of the project, the trailhead adjoining the new campground has been redesigned include a permanent vault toilet, new water fountain, horse hitching rails, and picnic tables to make this a true trailhead “comfort station.”

Additionally, thanks to our fundraisers, firewood sales, and generous donations, we have been able to open an endowment fund designated specifically for future maintenance of the new equestrian campground and to support other park projects benefiting equestrian users.
